Feeling a little frazzled

This writing thing's a lot harder than I thought it was going to be...

...but what the hell else is new? Seriously, my writing speed is the equivalent of a turtle's walking pace. When it's asleep. And cemented to the sidewalk. Right in front of a brick wall.

In other words: I'm really goddamn slow.

But at least I'm actually writing, so that's something.

My current project is still that Strider brothers fanfiction, except it's transformed into something completely different in plot and style. It's been disturbingly easy to slip into the mind of an arrogant, petulant ten-year-old who elevates cussing to an art form. That probably says a lot about me, but oh well. Thinking up convoluted metaphors for him to use is both frustrating and kind of fun. He's such a weird kid.

Other writing ideas are still on hold until I finish this. I haven't lost interest over that Harry Potter story, but that'll take a lot more pre-planning. Like how cultures would differ between American and British wizards. Or how American wizard culture would differ between East/West or North/South or whatever. Hell, I'm still really vague on a lot of things for this. I really want to do this project, though, so I'll think of something eventually.

Reading: Still browsing the HP books, mostly before bed. I have a habit of rereading something dozens of times before I move on to something else.

Playing: Not shit. Finally returned LA Noire (unfinished //sigh). Waiting for the release of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus now.

the epitome of stoicism and coolness

===> ETERNITY- MEMORY: Update lj

You decide to write another journal entry, as per your nebulous vow to update 'more often'. It has been another chill two or so weeks since you last updated, but that is because you are a chill type of girl. You're like an ice cube in the freezer you're so goddamned chill.

Because you're feeling inspired by a certain fandom you've entered, you decide to write this entry in second person, as if some shadowy master was directing your every thought and action. You decide it's also actually kind of fun to do so. It's been a long time since you've tried your hand at second person narration.

Reading: Homestuck. Ah, Homestuck. The webcomic is a slow burn, but it has proven to be quite worth your easily-drained patience. Unfortunately, it is somewhat tedious in parts, and you will probably be an old biddy before you're up to date with whatever convoluted time-travel/alien troll subplot/alternate dream universe/etc. plot-points that are stuffed into this crazy and funny creative online narrative, but you don't really mind. As long as the flash animations and the music are as good as they are now, you'll probably stick with it. You mentally award mad props to its creator(s) for making Homestuck.

Writing: You type, with a bit of embarrassment, that you are also writing a bit of Homestuck. You are a sucker for the dynamics between older and younger siblings, and Dave and Bro's relationship is fun to speculate on. You are making good progress on your one-shot featuring an angry, ill-adjusted child Dave and a worried Bro who is just as angry but controls it better. You plan on staging a mad hug-out session between the two in the end after they sword fight on the apartment rooftop. D'aaawww.

The Imaginary Beasts prompt is giving you trouble again, and you need to think a bit for how best to approach chapter 2 of that Harry Potter 'elsewhere' story you're working on. You decide to put them on hold for now.

Playing: Still nothing. You have sneaking suspicion that L.A. Noire will end up in the large pile of games you play through but never complete. Ah well.

Megara is not amused

*blows the dust off the account*

Honestly, at this point should I even bother trying to re-revive my activity here? Probably not, but hey, it's the middle of summer, I'm writing stories again, and I don't have anything to lose by doing so. Hardly matters in any case since I follow so few people on this site and--ah, whatever. If I keep going down this vein this whole post will turn into me arguing with myself about whether I should ditch lj for good. I will try and post more often. There, that's nice and vague and easy enough to uphold, right?

Moving on.

Reading: Got through all of Harry Potter after years of not touching them. I still love them as much as I did when I was 12, even with my vastly more critical eye. Bless this series.

Writing: Thanks to the aforementioned HP spree I'm on, I am now back in the fanfiction business. There will be very little main trio, side characters, or their children mentioned in the story(ies?) I'm planning. I'm making an all new class of characters, and the school's in America. More specifically, the setting's in California, because this is the place I know the best and the West Coast needs some wizard lovin' too aw yeah.

Generally I did one-shots for fanfiction. The few times I tried to write a multi-chaptered fic I ended up failing and abandoning the process. I think this largely due to the fact that I would write one chapter by the seat of my pants and post it immediately without thinking about where I wanted the story to go as a whole. Naturally, this led to me hitting a wall by the second or third chapter. So now I plan on getting the whole story done and edited before I post it on FF(dot)net. I want to try writing a book for each of Phoebe's seven years of school, and I already have an inkling of one or two major overarching plots that can comfortably stretch that far, but...we'll see. *shrug*

I'm also writing for the September issue of Imaginary Beasts, a fantasy genre zine here on lj. The prompt is Autumn, and I'm probably going to use my two original characters for it at younger ages. Will probably end up being kind of fluffy. Hopefully I make the deadline this time.

Playing: Well, I was playing L.A. Noire, but I'm full swing in the period of time where I stop playing games for a month or two before picking it up again out of no where and finishing it at a sprint. It's a good game, FWIW, though everyone (besides your Traffic partner) is an asshole of one kind or another. I suppose it wouldn't be Noir if everyone was by-the-rules and relatively friendly, though. There aren't many other games I'm dying to play at the moment. July and August are apparently dead months when it comes to video games, so I guess I have to wait until fall for interesting titles.

This'll do for now. I'll probably go for shorter entries in future posts. I just wanted to make a nice big one after such a long hiatus. Now I'm off to find interesting lj communities to join, because my current list is sadly lacking.

Anemone glanced between Héctor's irritating smugness and Saif's displeased scowl.

“So I will receive no privacy?” she asked gloomily.

“We are not leaving,” snapped Saif, impatient as ever.

“And tell us why the king requested you to take on a nest of Revenants by yourself,” added Héctor.

Anemone sighed. Her secret was finally exposed. “Very well. Leave me now, and I will tell you everything before you depart. Accompany me, and all questions will have to wait until after we complete my objective.” She gave them a level stare. “Which option will it be, gentlemen?”

Saif could barely register the murmured words.

“...have to drink...nasty...you will...”

Soft, wet skin pressed against his dry mouth as a pair of hands tilted his head up. Suddenly, he was aware of how dessicated his throat was. His lips molded around the source of liquid by instinct.

Another voice. “...it works...”

The warm liquid streamed down his tongue in a silky rush. The taste was exquisite; delicate and sweet. He swallowed reflexively.

Power snapped through him in burning sparks. Moaning in ecstasy, he clutched at what was offering him life and lapped at it with crazed need.

“We are going to get caught.” Saif sounded bored.

“Thank you for the optimism, my friend,” muttered Héctor as they rounded a corner in the darkened hallway. His frantic heart made him feel utterly ridiculous. It wasn't as if they were risking their lives sneaking around Manor Xylander. Far from it.

“If His Majesty came here for a private audience with Anemone and Magister Gavriil, then we should respect that.”

They stopped when they heard the king's deep laugh echo from a room down the corridor. Héctor looked back at Saif.

“Aren't you curious?” asked Héctor.

Title: Therapy Session
Author: eternity_memory
Fanfiction/Original: Original, Glass Moon
Rating: PG
Summary: She didn't mind the bloodlusting, berserker side of Saif, but she did wish that he'd be decent enough to find himself some clothes to put on.
Word Count: 100

Anemone eyed the naked, angry figure of Saif's ghumaisa with professional interest.

“Good evening, sir,” she said sweetly.

The ghumaisa launched himself up from his sitting position and hurled towards her with a mighty snarl. He didn't get very far. Anemone's spell pages rose up and circled around him in a prison more secure than any cage. The pieces of paper glowed with the pale, cold luminescence of The Moon, but the ghumaisa managed to skid to a halt before he could collide with the barrier and activate its magic.

Anemone smiled. They were finally making a little progress.

So it has been decided...

I suck nuts. Yep.

Eh, it's not as if anyone is reading my journal. But I want to make it as a writer. How the hell am I supposed to do that if I can't even write 100 words a day? *smacks self*

I'm going to try again. Starting later this evening or sometime tomorrow. It's summer, after all. I have two-ish months left before college swallows me whole. I can squeeze a few more entries in.

The weight on Sophia’s chest was excruciatingly uncomfortable. Again she tried to reach for the spear that pinned ruthlessly her to the floor of her bedroom, and again her arms trembled and collapsed to her sides, too weak to stay in the air long enough for her to grip the iron shaft that pierced through her heart.

She sighed, more exasperated than anything else. Here she was, lying in veritable lake of her own blood and skewered in place like meat on a kebab, yet perfectly alive.

A miracle? She wished. More like the beginnings of a curse.

My daughter. My sweet, intelligent daughter. She is the pride of our House, the flower that will one day bloom in glory. She will inherit the family duty, the greatest honor imaginable.

Oh, how I hate this child!

She is unworthy. Why did she receive the power she never asked for? I prayed for it every day. Why did my pleas fall upon deaf ears? Why her?

It was terrible of me to show affection to her, to make her trust me so. I wish I had been cruel. Her death shall be swift and painless. I owe her that.
